Printable Children’s Book Page Templates

Every child has a story in their head. The problem is getting it onto paper. They know what happens, they know the characters, and then they sit down, and the whole thing falls apart because they do not know where to put anything. A template solves that. It hands them a page that already has a shape, and suddenly the story has somewhere to go.

These five children’s book templates are free to download and print at home. Each one has a different look, so there is something here for the child who wants a jungle adventure, the one writing a cosy winter story, and every kind of storyteller in between. Download the children’s book template PDF and print one before the next quiet afternoon arrives.

Why Templates Help Young Writers Get Started

Staring at a blank page is hard for adults. For children, it can be enough to make them give up before they have written a single word. A template removes that first obstacle. The border is there, the space is defined, and the only thing left to figure out is the story itself. That shift matters more than it sounds. Children who would otherwise sit stuck for ten minutes pick up a pencil and start almost immediately.

Every child is different. Some will fill the page in one go without stopping. Others will take their time, rub things out, and start three times again before they are happy. Both of those children will do better with a template in front of them than without one. It gives the confident child a frame to work within and the careful child a page that already feels less empty. Either way, the writing gets done.

If your child enjoys hands-on craft activities alongside storytelling, these printable blank snowman templates are a fun way to keep the creativity going.

Five Templates, Five Different Worlds

Template 1: Green Border with Flying Books

A white page with a bold green dotted border running around the edge. A stack of hand-drawn books sits in the top right corner, and a scattering of colourful books trails across the bottom. The upper half of the page has a soft, cloudy wash that gives the whole thing a daydreamy feel. Good for big, imaginative stories with a sense of adventure.

Template 2: Watercolour Garden with a Reading Boy

Soft blue and green watercolour tones wash across the background. Cherry blossom branches come in from both sides, a small bookshelf sits in the corner, and at the bottom, a boy lies on his stomach reading. It is a calm, quiet template that suits slower stories, nature writing, or anything a child wants to take their time with.

Children who love the feeling of finishing something will enjoy these free printable blank mini book templates, which turn a simple story into a proper little book they can keep.

Template 3: Countryside Path with Mushrooms and Butterflies

A winding dirt path cuts through a bright green field. There is a large red mushroom on the right, wildflowers scattered through the grass, and a trail of butterflies lifting up the left side of the page. The watercolour sky fills the top half. Children who love fairy tales will claim this one immediately.

Template 4: Jungle with Tropical Animals

This one is the boldest in the set. Tropical leaves and vines frame the whole page, a monkey swings in on the left, flamingos and a gorilla crowd the bottom corner, and a wooden signpost stands on the right, pointing off somewhere unknown. The open centre gives plenty of room for the story, and the animals do a good job of deciding the mood before a single word is written.

Template 5: Winter Scene with Penguins and Snowmen

A soft mint background with fairy lights strung across the top, a skating penguin on the left, and at the bottom, two children building a snowman beside an igloo. Snow-covered trees line the edges. This one works for Christmas stories, winter adventures, or anything that needs a warm and festive feel.

Wrapping Up

Children do not need much to get writing. They need a story idea, something to write with, and a page that feels relatable. Each template in this set looks different, so most children will have a favourite the moment they see it. And when a child likes the page in front of them, getting them to write on it is never a problem.

The best stories come from the least expected places. Give a child one of these templates and a pencil, and then see what happens. You might be surprised what they come up with.
